The electrocardiogram as a diagnostic aid in pneumothorax.

چکیده
This study shows that during some common activities, there appears to be shallow, irregular breathing involving both chest and diaphragmatic movement, and this is followed by a period of increased ventilation. It is possible that during the activity, there is some carbon dioxide rentention and possibly a fall in arterial oxygen tension. Hyperventilation after the activity is needed to return the blood gases towards the previous resting level. This increased breathing following the activity is appreciated as dyspnea in patients with obstructive lung disease. In normal subjects, compensation for the shallow, irregular breathing is achieved by a few deep breaths which are easily performed without subjective discomfort. Patients become fearful when they find themselves short of breath after such minor exertion as doing their hair, and explanation that this is due to a breathing pattern, which they can personally observe, can do much to reassure them and eliminate unnecessary fear of their disease. Diagnosis of Pneumothorax by Focused Assessment Sonography of Trauma(eFAST) and CT scan in Chest Trauma: Comparison of diagnostic accuracy
Abstract Aims and objectives: Pneumothorax is a common finding after trauma and with a wide range of clinical manifestations, from a concealed pneumothorax detectable only by a CT scan accidentally, to a potentially fatal tension pneumothorax. Pneumothorax can gradually progress to tension pneumothorax and become an emergency, consequently, a timely diagnosis is essential. Most traumatic patie...
متن کاملComparison of the Diagnostic Values of Four-Point and Two-point Ultrasound Versus CT Scan in Determining Pneumothorax
Background and Objectives: Pneumothorax is a life-threatening complication and the most common cause of which is trauma. Early diagnosis and treatment of Pneumothorax are very important. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic values of four-point and double-point ultrasound versus CT scan in determining pneumothorax in Rasul-Akram and Hafte-Tir Hospitals during the years 2015 - 201...
متن کاملConcurrent atrioventricular block, sinus arrest and pneumothorax in a dog secondary to vehicle accident
In human several kinds of electrocardiographic findings have been reported in association with pneumothorax such as decreased and/or alternating QRS amplitude (electrical alternans). However, electrocardiographic changes concurrent with pneumothorax have rarely been discussed in veterinary literature. A 3-year-old male crossbreed dog was presented with a history of car accident. Thoracic au...

Objective: This study aimed to determine the association of cardiac risk factors and the risk of Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) in Emergency Department (ED) patients with non-diagnostic ECG changes. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the ED of Imam Hossein Hospital during a period of one year. In this study, patients with symptoms s...
